Matthew's Coding Blog: Algorithmic Bias

There is biasness in the online recruitment tools used there is a discovery made in Amazon that more than half of the percentage were male workers and that they held over more than 70% of the company staff position and here is where they decided to stop using the algorithm for recruiting because it was found to be gender biased. Biasness in word associations: Researchers discovered that software's perceived some names as more pleasant like the name woman and girl are associated with arts instead of mathematics and science which were automatically associated with males. Researchers were able to discover on the racial and gender biasness evident in software's and humans

Biasness in the online adverts: It was discovered by researchers that search queries made online for African American names likely ads that shows arrest records unlike white names . It was also discovered that in there was biasness in high interest credit on the African Americans despite them having a similar background as the white people. Examples of the above algorithm biasness are pretty common and are known it is just that not a lot of energy is put into completely eliminating the biasness that are made and normalized.

No, it does not change our perception on computers because some of the most common causes of biasness is due to historical human biasness and lack of complete training data that is fed into the algorithm and not a fault of the computer operating system. Incorporating diversity in the designing of all algorithms in the workforce so as to avoid any discrimination in terms of minority groups, also the development of a regular audit which is thorough in terms of all the data collected in the operation while taking into account the responses got from the developers and all of the individuals impacted so as to be able to detect any biasness that could be made by the algorithm.
